Charitable Activity

In common with other London Livery Companies, the Dyers are proud to be associated with a number of schools.

Our current educational relationships date from the 20th century; the oldest being our connection with Norwich School which began in the aftermath of WWII, when Past Prime Warden Judge Norman Daynes, himself an Old Novicensian, brought it to the attention of the Company.  In 1996 former Lord Mayor Sir Francis McWilliams called on the City Companies “to examine and build upon work carried out by the Livery Companies in the fields of education and training”.

Companies were encouraged to form links with individual schools, particularly those in the four adjacent boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Tower Hamlets and Southwark. The Dyers’ Company readily agreed to participate, and we have added two further London schools to our affiliations.  These have become a major focus on our charitable support.

The Dyers Company also supports some thirty other schools, educational charities and charities for the young.
